FAQ

We answer all your questions ♡

🌿 Origin, Manufacturing & Safety

➞ Are animals slaughtered specifically to make your sweets?

No. 🤎 All our treats come from animals already slaughtered for human consumption. The parts we use (ears, tendons, skin, etc.) are simply those that humans don't eat. We carefully transform them into natural dog treats, so nothing is wasted and every dog can safely enjoy them.

➞ Is natural chewing environmentally friendly?

Yes. 🤎 These chewable treats are part of an ecological and responsible approach. They come exclusively from by-products of human food production (ears, skin, tendons, lungs…), pieces that we humans don't eat and that would otherwise be thrown away or destroyed.

By repurposing them for dogs, we avoid food waste and give them a second life, in an upcycling approach.

It's a choice that is both ethical and sustainable:

• Nothing is produced “specifically” for these treats,

• Every part of the animal is respected and used,

• The overall environmental impact of the sector is limited.

➞ Where do your treats (including exotic proteins) come from?

We work exclusively with European partners selected for the quality and traceability of their raw materials.

The majority of our products come from animals raised or hunted in Europe, in regulated sectors and under official veterinary control.

Some rarer proteins (such as camel or ostrich) come from countries authorized to export to the European Union. Each batch must pass through EU border control points with strict veterinary certificates, and is then processed in Europe in an approved facility.

➞ How are the sweets made?

Our treats are simply dried with hot air, without any additives or preservatives.

Our chewable treasures are obtained through a natural dehydration process. After being carefully prepared and cleaned, the raw pieces (ears, tendons, skins, etc.) are placed in large drying rooms.

The heat circulates there constantly, generally between 90°C and 120°C, depending on the thickness of the piece.

Some thicker treats (like hooves or thick hides) require longer drying times, sometimes several days, while thinner pieces dry in a few hours.

This drying process:

• Gradually remove the water contained in the product,

• prevents bacterial growth and ensures natural preservation,

• concentrates the scent and flavor that make the treat irresistible to dogs,

• Keeps fibers and nutrients intact, essential for chewing.

⭢ The result: a pure, raw and healthy treat, simply transformed by warm air and time.

➞ Are your treats natural and safe for my dog?

Yes. 🤎 Our products are 100% natural: no colorings, no preservatives, no artificial flavors, and no chemical treatment or irradiation.

They come exclusively from healthy animals slaughtered for human consumption, in accordance with European regulations. No sick animals are used.

We have undergone HACCP training and apply strict hygiene and traceability procedures: batch control and recording, storage in airtight containers, rigorous cleaning plan, individual labeling and document tracking.

Finally, each of our partner manufacturers is carefully selected for its compliance with the most demanding European standards (HACCP), guaranteeing impeccable quality and safety at every stage.

➞ Is there a risk of suffocation?

As with any chewable food, it is recommended to adapt the treat to the size of your dog and to remain present during chewing.

At Museau d'Amour, we carefully sort each product to offer formats suitable for small muzzles as well as large sizes.

We recommend that you always leave fresh water available, so that this moment of pleasure remains as safe as it is comforting.

➞ Why do several products have the same batch number?

The batch number corresponds to the packaging session, not the species. Different products packaged on the same day can therefore share the same number. This allows for simplified traceability and enhanced safety in the event of an inspection or recall.

🐾 Uses & Benefits of Chewing

➞ What is the purpose of natural chewing?

Chewing is an instinctive need for dogs. By offering them a suitable treat, you satisfy this need while providing them with a true ritual of well-being.

It contributes to her oral hygiene, soothes her stress, channels her energy and stimulates her attention.

It is a moment that is both useful and comforting, which nourishes the overall balance of your companion.

➞ Can my puppy or senior dog benefit from it?

Yes 🤎, natural chewing is suitable for all ages: puppies, adults and seniors can enjoy it, provided they choose a texture adapted to their jaw and experience.

At Museau d'Amour, we specify on each product page whether the chew toy is suitable (or not) for puppies, small muzzles or senior dogs.

This allows you to easily choose what best suits your companion.

➞ My dog is sensitive/allergic, can I give him your treats?

Yes 🤎 Our treats are pure and mono-protein (only one ingredient per product).

If your pet has a known allergy, you simply need to choose a protein that he tolerates (lamb, horse, fish, etc.).

For dogs with sensitive stomachs, we have also developed allergy-friendly ranges. These are made from so-called "novel" proteins (such as horse, rabbit, or fish), which are less commonly consumed by dogs and therefore less likely to trigger a reaction. They are also more digestible, making them a gentle and safe alternative for sensitive noses.

➞ Why do you say “allergy-friendly” and not “hypoallergenic”?

The term hypoallergenic is regulated and requires precise scientific testing, but no treat can guarantee zero risk of allergy.

We therefore prefer to use the term allergy-friendly: a transparent expression which means that our treats are simple, pure and suitable for sensitive dogs, without ever promising the impossible.

➞ Why do some dogs develop allergies?

Food allergies occur when a dog's body recognizes a protein as an "enemy" and triggers an immune response (itching, redness, digestive problems, etc.). In most cases, these allergies develop after repeated consumption of the same protein over a long period.

This is why it is recommended to regularly vary protein sources. Alternating between several meats (poultry, beef, lamb, horse, fish, etc.) helps limit the risk of sensitization and preserves the dog's food tolerance in the long term.

Today, we are also seeing the emergence of so-called “exotic” proteins such as camel, deer or kangaroo: less used in traditional canine food, they represent an excellent alternative for dogs allergic to the most common proteins.

➞ How long does a treat last?

It all depends on the size of the dog, its jaw, and the product chosen.

Light treats are devoured in minutes, while tougher ones sometimes take several days.

Does chewing really help reduce stress and boredom?

Yes. 🤎 Chewing stimulates the secretion of endorphins, hormones that give the dog a feeling of calm and well-being.

This ritual helps to soothe anxious dogs, reduce boredom during absences, and channel more spirited temperaments.

➞ How often can I give my dog a treat?

You can offer your pet a chew toy every day. It's a healthy habit that contributes to their calmness and well-being.

Our treats are naturally rich in protein, low in carbohydrates and with no added sugars, perfectly suited to the carnivorous metabolism of the dog.

The main thing is to:

• Vary the types to maintain digestive comfort.

• Adjust the size to fit your pet's jaw,

• Introduce any new treat gradually (a few minutes the first time, then longer),

• and always under your supervision, with fresh water available.

Does chewing make my dog gain weight?

No, if it remains within the recommended limit: maximum 10% of daily energy intake.

Some chews are higher in calories (thick skins, yak cheeses): simply break the treat or slightly adjust the portion of the main meal.

Concrete example: for a 20 kg dog, this represents approximately the equivalent of one cow's ear per day.

Thus, chewing remains a delicious, balanced ritual that is good for your figure.

➞ Why aren't treats always the same size or color?

Each piece is unique, as it comes from a different animal. Size, shape, and color may vary, but the quality and safety remain the same.

My dog doesn't like a treat, what should I do?

Every dog has its preferences, just like we have our favorite foods. This doesn't call into question the quality or safety of the treat at all: it's simply a matter of individual taste.

In this case, simply offer another protein: some dogs love beef, others prefer lamb, fish or rarer meats like horse or deer.

By varying the proteins and chewable treats, you'll help your pet discover what truly suits them. With a little time, every dog will find their favorite treat, the one that becomes their ritual of pleasure and comfort.

🤍 Storage & Tips

➞ How to store sweets after opening?

Store them at room temperature, in a dry place, away from moisture and heat.

After opening, carefully reseal the bag or transfer the treats to an airtight container (glass jar, storage box).

This helps to preserve their crisp texture and natural aroma.

Our treats do not require refrigeration: their natural drying ensures optimal preservation without additives or cold.

➞ Can I freeze your treats?

No. Dehydration already ensures their natural and optimal preservation without additives.

Freezing could alter their texture, weaken them, or make them waterlogged, which would impair the chewing experience. Therefore, it offers no additional benefit.

➞ What is the shelf life?

Each sachet has a Best Before Date (BBD).

Until that date, the treat retains all its nutritional and taste qualities.

Beyond that, it can still be consumed if it has been stored correctly, but its aroma and texture may be slightly altered.

➞ Is the smell of the treats normal?

Yes. 🤎 A stronger smell is actually a sign of a raw product, without added perfume.

For dogs, it is this authenticity that makes our treats irresistible.
